In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, @WellChild chief executive Matt James expressed the profound impact of Harry's support. Last year's awards were overshadowed by the sad news of Queen Elizabeth's passing on September 8 meaning Harry couldn’t attend. In his speech, Harry paid tribute to his late grandmother, saying, "I was unable to attend the awards last year as my grandmother passed away…I know, exactly one year on, she is looking down on all of us tonight – happy we are together…" Matt James highlighted the Duke's essential role in WellChild's success, emphasising, "We wouldn't be where we are today without the work the Duke has done to help us fundraise, attract supporters, and provide a platform to shine a light on the issues faced by families across the country." The Chief Exec also said Harry’s presence uplifted the families and winners, providing them with moments they'll cherish forever. WellChild aims to support children and young people with serious health needs, highlighting their remarkable qualities and the dedication of their caregivers. During the event, Harry met a number of young people including 7 year old Poppy dressed as Cinderella, who charmed him with her dance moves, and Blake McCaughey, who gifted him a personalized Belfast hockey jersey with Harry’s birth year represented at the back.
