It’s been quite a long time since I introduced myself here…so for those of you that are new to my feed. Hello and welcome! I’m Viv, a Hong Kong born artist living in Scotland for the past 20 something years (so many I’ve lost count now!) and working full time in the medium of clay since 2018. Art and making came to me a bit later in life and as my 17 year old son begins to think about his path beyond school, I am called to reflect on my own convoluted journey to where I am now… Thinking back to my 17 year old self, I made decisions about my future based on what my well meaning family expected of me (or perhaps desired for themselves) and those decisions led to making choices that left me feeling unhappy, lost and at times even physically unwell. Only when I began making choices that served my own interests and need for creative expression did I find fulfilment, purpose and well-being. Often those decisions were terrifying, like leaving London and moving to Scotland to become a florist or pursuing an art degree at the age of 37 and not having any idea where that might lead me. Somehow it seems that when we take a risk from the heart, we are rewarded. Words I hope to share with my son later today.
