2023 Update: Going all the way back to the very first post I ever did for this update… almost 300 project profiles ago! After the stadium was demolished the area was rebuilt into athletic fields for Rugters. Interestingly one of the new fields is a baseball field ... a way less cool baseball field than the one that previously stood in its place.  Check out the YouTube page for a video on this project that goes a little deeper into the background and shows what the site looks like today. Really appreciate all the new subscribers to the YouTube channel, it’s been slow getting going but seems to finally be gaining a little traction! ——————————— Project Name: Campbells Stadium Project Type: Independent League Baseball Stadium City: Camden NJ Opened: 2001 Demolished: 2018 Currently: Athletic Fields Cost: 35 million dollars Reason for failure: Inconsistent attendance, inability to remain economically viable Costing roughly 35 million dollars (part of which was covered by NJ taxpayers) and expected to be a major catalyst for Camden’s downtown redevelopment, Campbell’s Stadium opened to great fanfare in 2001. The stadium was set against the picturesque backdrop of the Ben Franklin Bridge, Deleware River and the Philadelphia skyline.  Only 18 years later after struggling to maintain economic viability, the stadium was demolished costing taxpayers millions more. There are plans to redevelop the area again as another athletic complex, but those plans have been repeatedly delayed. The area now sits as a vacant lot.
