The “12-15 Point” Trophy! This is my only trophy that fell off the mantle by accident and broke! But this trophy has a story to tell! Several years ago, I played in a round robin national girls 12 level 5 tournament! My opponent and I were going to play for finalist as we both lost to the champion but beat the other players! As I was checking in, my opponent’s dad starting yelling loudly that I was cheater and that I cheated her daughter 12-15 times last time we played (a match which I lost)! He also stated that I cried whenever I was losing a point (true!), that my parents cheered too loudly for me (true) so they must have supported my cheating (false), and that my brother was giving me hand signals (Connor did not attend our previous match but it was Caleb, my special needs brother who flaps his hands and wrists because he has autism)! This happened at the tournament desk in front of other players, parents, line judge, tournament director, etc! My parents and I were in shock! He accused me of cheating 12-15 calls (Im definitely not a cheater, I have played on balls that were way out) being disruptive by crying too much ( I was 10 years old), parents cheering too much (I was 10 years old playing much older girls), and my special needs brother helping me with hand signals (unbelievable)! The director said let’s do this. We will be the last match of tournament! We will be out on the courts fairest away from viewing areas with no parent cheering whatsoever. The entire match be officiated by a line judge (Oh yeah!)! My opponent had a higher national ranking, higher UTR, was older than me and had beaten me last time we played! I won in a trilling third set tiebreaker with match point on a net cord that dropped over! The line judge only overruled one call entire match and it was against my opponent! I won my first girls 12 national level 5 finalist trophy! It’s sad that some parents ruin the game for their kids as my opponent has not played in a tournament for several years now!
