Fall is almost here! The king of all Persian fall dishes is Fesnjoon (i.e., Walnut and pomegranate chicken stew,) so there is no better recipe to start. Based on my observations as an Iranian implant, Fesenjoon is the most loved Persian dish by non-Iranians who may find other dishes a bit sour. As I have argued many times, here or in my book, Fesnjoon is a class of Persian dishes that contain fruit and nuts. Many regional Fesnjoon recipes might contain fruit elements such as apples, quinces, or others. The recipe in my book, as another example and, like many regional versions, has butternut squash. Here, I made an Aloo-Anar fesnjoon by using prunes as the fruit element.
