Fear and sadness have been such constant companions in my life. Moments of peace rare and miraculous like a hummingbird’s visit on a warm spring afternoon, here and gone so quickly I wonder if it was real. Moments of freedom random and fleeting like the last cottonwood seeds of the season swirling on a summer breeze, caught in gentle hands, marveled over, then released to carry on their task. Moments of happiness found and treasured like a glittering stone discovered lying in the dirt, cleaned and carefully tucked in my pocket to help me remember that happiness exists. Fear and sadness have been my constant companions. But peace and freedom and happiness have been there, too, like droplets of hope in a sea of grief. Life hurts. And life is healing. Life can be brutal. And life can be beautiful. Life can be hard. And life can be gentle.
