Khalil’s death, unfortunately, could easily happen today. Starr takes her grief, fear, and anger and channels those feelings to help improve her world—strong themes of family, community, the effects of police brutality, and social justice. ✨All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir Narrators: Deepti Gupta, Kamran R. Khan, Kausar Mohammed - thank you @librofm for the gifted audiobook. Loved it! 🫶 Lyrically beautiful and gut-wrenching at the same time! As first-generation Americans, Sal and Noor bond beyond their Pakistani heritage. Together, they experience grief, racism, Islamophobia, and the effects of abuse. But even with these heavy themes, Tahir creates resilient characters who grow, fall in love, and find hope within the ugliness. Both stories highlight how racism bleeds throughout our society. Racial profiling still exists when you encounter the police. And people with limited resources sometimes have no choice but to sell drugs to help their families survive. Unfortunately, I know a few of these kids IRL, so these two stories hit close to home. I highly recommend both of these YA books for all readers. September votes for my 2 BOTM is the closest vote yet. Book 1 = The Only One Left by Riley Sager.
