Drew Barrymore is facing backlash for announcing that her daytime talk show will return for its fourth season amid the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. In a statement posted to Instagram, Barrymore announced, “I hope for a resolve for everyone as soon as possible. We have navigated difficult times since we first came on air. And so I take a step forward to start season 4 once again with an astute humility.” “The Drew Barrymore Show” will return on September 18 and since it is covered by the Writers Guild of America, the show “is planning to return without its writers,” the guild has stated. According to Variety, “This means new episodes of “The Drew Barrymore Show” will have to utilize either violating WGA members, non-WGA writers or no one.” Barrymore’s peers have called her out on her decision to resume the show, including actor Bradley Whitford who tweeted that he will “never forget it.” Picketers have begun demonstrating outside the CBS studios in New York, where the show is being filmed.
