It is no secret that my favourite floor covering is a jute rug. I’ve got them in (in order of appearance) the living room, Domino’s bedroom, Stella’s bedroom, the kitchen, the guest room, our closet, the landing, the girls’ bathroom and the dining room. I guess you could say I have a thing for jute. Here are a few reasons why: 1. Cost: I have not yet found myself in the position to inherit or spend big bucks on a rug. Jute is one of the most affordable options out there, especially for larger areas. 2. Look: I love the warmth and texture jute adds to a room. It’s timeless and neutral and rarely feels out of place. There are also so many options - from wavy borders to contrasting edges, and solids or stripes and checks. 3. Feel: I don’t love the feel of synthetic low-pile rugs underfoot, so a natural fibre will always be my first option. It’s not rough or itchy and it’s also so durable: Cato loves to work his claws on the jute rugs and they’re good as new. One potential downside of jute is that I find it difficult to clean, though this has only been an issue when I have serious spills in the kitchen. What do you think? Do you have jute rugs at home?
