I’ve noticed something interesting. My wealthiest retired friends don’t drive fancy cars. ⁠ ⁠ 👉🏼@thefiguy (follow him for house hacking) drives a beat up Suzuki.⁠ 👉🏼Another couple friend is a one-car household. ⁠ 👉🏼Another person drives an old Volkswagen.⁠ ⁠ And for years I drove used Honda Civics until my ex and I became a one-car household ourselves. ⁠ ⁠ In my experience, wealthy people tend to value experiences and generosity (like going on an awesome trip or generously picking up the dinner tab for the group or doing significant amounts of charitable giving). They don’t value cars or mansions or designer clothes. And those values don’t really change the wealthier they get. ⁠ ⁠ That’s not to say you can’t look forward to spending your wealth however you want in the future. This is a simple observation about the decisions people make and the trends I’ve seen in real life. ⁠ ⁠ Ah interesting read on this topic is “The Millionaire Next Door” which shows how most millionaires drive modest cars and live in small houses.
