A Scaled quail stands on some rocks where it can get a better perspective on its surroundings. Scaled quail are medium-sized birds and are found primarily in New Mexico, western Texas, and portions of western Oklahoma, southwest Kansas, southeast Colorado, southeast Utah, and eastern Arizona. They Inhabit open landscapes, desert grassland, thorn-scrub and savanna. They feed on grains, seeds, and insects. They are extremely shy birds and difficult to find.
