You are connected hip to hip through the sling of your pleivc floor muscles! If the hips are limited or restricted, they can contribute to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. A good pelvic floor therapist will alway assess the role of the hips when it comes to any type of pelvic floor dsfunction - whether pelvic pain, bladder or bowel isssues. Join us for a mini series of some of our favorite hip self mobilization techniques we teach patients in our clinic. You want to challenge your hips in all 3 planes of motion you move in- the sagital, frontal and transverse planes. For the techniques above, repeat each slowly 15xs on each side, If you experience pain, stay in a pain-free range and dont force past where you first encouter restriction or resistance. The more you do this, the more you will notice how your range of motion improves. We cannot tell you how many times we have been able to help the pelvic floor by adressing the hip and vice versa! The muscles of the pelvis and hips have such an intimate relationship!!
