Today’s spin is Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam (2006) The self-titled album by Pearl Jam (aka the “Avocado Album”) is the eighth studio album by the band. I really like this record. I feel like it’s their most modern attempt at a throwback album to the early 90s sound. I dig it. For the Avocado tour, the band toured EVERYWHERE in the US…except for the Southeast, which is where I live. At the time I was pretty broke. I had just started teaching a couple years prior, and I didn’t have the money to travel. I kept thinking, they have to at least play Atlanta. They always play Atlanta. Well, they didn’t. 2006 came and went. They played a couple US shows in 2007 (Lolla and the Vic)…but then in 2008, the band made it right with the South. The mini-2008 East Coast summer tour that started in south Florida is still one of my favorites. I made up for not seeing the band since 2004 with three shows on the 2008 tour - West Palm Beach, @bonnaroo, and Columbia, SC. I had a blast at all three, but Bonnaroo was pretty memorable. To this day, I still talk about some of the bands I saw that weekend. Three days and counting until I see Pearl Jam annihilate the stage in Ft Worth! Can you tell I’m a little excited? Any PJ concert that gets at least a song or two from the Avocado Album is a special show in my book. They definitely don’t play songs off this album enough. Give me some Avocado in FTW!
