For our friends living in or near Punggol, there’s a new Bloodbank@One Punggol for you to visit and make a blood donation! Went recently to visit the new blood bank to make my donation and was impressed with the new facilities there and how smooth the blood donation process was. If you have never tried, I have shared in this reel what the process is like. It takes about 45 mins all in and before you actually donate, the blood bank staff will check on your haemoglobin levels, medical and social history to ensure that it’s safe for you to proceed. And as for the perennial question on whether it’s painful, realistically of course you will feel some pain but I would say it’s extremely bearable, thanks to the local painkiller that they inject you with before the actual needle to draw the blood goes in. And no, it’s not because my pain threshold is high (I was the one who asked for an epidural at the very onset of a contraction when giving birth!) but blood donation is actually way less daunting once you give it a go! One blood donation from any of us saves three lives and the adage ‘Save for a Rainy Day’ can’t be more apt here.
