Sipping Champagne in Champagne! 🥂 ⁣ Thank you to @aeh.fr for hosting us at @veuveclicquot's house in Verzy, where they host private events & tastings and for a tour of the historic caves in Reims. Below are some highlights from our day: ⁣ ⁣ 🍇Vineyards: our initial drive into the area reminded me of the Sonoma Valley area with its similar landscape & climate. ➡️ Fun fact: in the Champagne region, the subsoil is made up of chalk, marl (a combination of limestone and clay) and limestone proper allowing for good drainage for exceptional vineyards.⁣ ⁣ 🪨Caves: much cooler than the caves in Napa Valley (influenced from the chalk soil) & with so much history it was fun touring and learning about the cellaring process. The caves are so massive they connect to some of the other wineries in the area like: Taittinger, Ruinart and Pommery. ⁣ ⁣ 🍾Wines: I've always loved Veuve Clicquot's Rosé and was especially blown away with their 2015 Le Dame label that was refreshingly elegant. @oliviadrinkswine, @mario.piombo and I enjoyed a tasting flight at their pop up café with a delicious food pairing. This Champagne house was founded 250 years ago and marked by the predominance of the Pinot Noir grape.
