Today’s spin is Pearl Jam - Ten (1991) Ten is the debut studio album by Pearl Jam. It’s a masterpiece. It might possibly be the best debut album ever made. I’ve talked about my strange relationship with Ten on here before. Without ever even giving it a chance, I judged it because a character in a dumb early 90s sitcom said something like, “Ten by Pearl Jam is the worst album ever”. I don’t even remember the exact quote, but Parker Lewis from “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose” apparently persuaded me enough to not give PJ a chance until five years later when I saw them live for the first time. In the mid to late 90s, I became pretty obsessed with Ten. “Porch” instantly became my favorite. Back in college, I used to listen to the @mtv Unplugged version on a bootleg in my car before going in to take exams. The band - the song - would pump me up every time. It made me feel alive. I can’t believe I’m only one day away from seeing Pearl Jam in Ft Worth! It’ll be my 22nd PJ show, my first in Texas. I’m only in town for about 24 hours, but I’m hoping to pack in as much as possible. Hopefully it’s a day filled with record store digging, BBQ, Tex-Mex, and breweries.
