For everyone saying ‘Why didn’t she apparate, floo or portkey?’ Before fantastic beasts it was pretty well accepted in FF cannon that long distance apparition is pretty dangerous like… that big magical exertion and what if you materialise in the sea or something 💀 Portkey would have been suitable but in this story Hermione decided she wanted to fly home because it gave her some time to process her loss before having to explain what had happened to Harry and Ron. Both of whom would be expecting her to come home with her family. She’s heartbroken it hasn’t worked out the way she hoped but also warmed that even memoryless, her parents wanted her. She was their dream so much they created her anew. She concludes with the hope that this time their daughter isn’t magic so her parents don’t have to go through the cruel distance that inevitably comes with having a child that belongs to a world they can’t share. A distance she regrets letting get so big. She can only trust that their daughter will hug Mr and Mrs Wilkins(The new name they were given when they went to Australia) tight enough for her as well.
