We’re delighted to welcome back Russell Young AKA @bankrobbercalifornia back for our new group exhibition 'The Maddox Collection' now on at 9 Maddox Street. Russell is a British-American artist best known for his large-scale silk-screen paintings that examine cultural icons, the nature of celebrity and the souring of the American Dream. His earliest breakthrough was his photography of George Michael for the sleeve of the album ‘Faith’ in 1987. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Young photographed many stars of the music world, which led him to move to California, the setting for his first sold-out show, ‘Pig Portraits’, in 2003. The many series that have followed, including the ongoing ‘Heroes + Heroines’, demonstrate his visceral approach to portraying both the glamour of fame as well as its dark side, and his signature use of diamond dust.
