This year, I got to commemorate Mexican Independence Day in Malaga, Spain during the official presentation of “La Casa De Mexico en Málaga y Andalucia “. Malaga and Spain in general, has a large population of Mexican immigrants that have made Spain their home and embraced the Spanish culture while keeping our Mexican traditions. I myself was very excited when I found an organization such as “La Casa de Mexico en Málaga y andalucia” had just been created and quickly became acquainted and begun attending their cultural & social events along with business oriented workshops. Today was a special day, September 15th is the day of “El Grito” and September 16th is Mexican Independence Day. Not to be confused with “Cinco De Mayo” which is a commemoration of a small battle of Puebla, but that’s for another post and celebration. Here is a little google search history here for more details: Mexican Independence Day is celebrated on September 16th every year to commemorate the day when Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1810. The day is marked by a national holiday in Mexico, a reenactment of a historic moment from the revolution’s leader, and an array of performances from fireworks to dance routines. The movement for independence began when a Catholic priest named Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla made the first cry for independence in the Mexican town of Dolores on September 16, 1810. Hidalgo’s Cry of Dolores, or El Grito de Dolores, was spoken, not written, and it urged the largely Indian and mestizo congregation of his small Dolores parish church to take up arms and fight for Mexico’s independence from Spain. The Mexican War of Independence was an armed conflict and political process resulting in Mexico’s independence from Spain, which culminated with the drafting of the Declaration of Independence of the Mexican Empire in Mexico City on September 28, 1821. Mexican Independence Day has been celebrated every year since that momentous day on September 16, 1810. #september16 #mexicanindependenceday #malaga #mexico #vivamexico #málaga #lamamijuliespain #lamamijulie #lamamilife #mexicanosporeuropa #mexicanosenespaña #mexicanosenmalaga
