KEITH EMERSON / ELP: Keith’s impact on me as a musician and player was nothing short of mammoth and he showed a bar that was clearly unobtainable and unimaginable. From the first ELP album I was aghast at his compositions, playing, arranging and chops that were like nothing I’d ever heard. Then came “Tarkus” which was like being taken on some magical, musical journey with the force of nature and a power that just punched out of the speakers. That album and ”Trilogy” were transformational and Keith’s use of the Moog was also so brilliant. I knew I’d never reach that kind of craft but it was amazing to watch and hear, and be in awe that someone could create at that level.
