Louis Ferdinand, Dauphin of France (1729-1765). He was the eldest son and the only one whi survived infancy of King Louis XV and Queen Marie Leszczyńska. He became the father of three French Kings, Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X. His birth as an heir was long expected at the @chateauversailles after a large part of the royal family died in the 1710s. There were fireworks in all French cities. As a boy he had an interest in the military. He wanted to fight in the Austrian Succession War. His father wouldn't let him and then Louis XV became sick with fear of him dying at war in 1744 in Metz, he came to visit his father. This wasn't allowed and could have gotten them both killed. They never had a good relationship after this, because he brought danger to the monarchy. Louis was well educated, curious, cultivated and a lover of music. He preferred a good conversation over hunting, unlike his father. He got married twice. The first time to Maria Theresa of Spain (1726-1746). They had one daughter, she became two years old and Maria died after giving birth. His second marriage was to Maria Josepha of Saxony (1731-1767). They had nine children, 4 died young. Louis Ferdinand had a big posture and in this painting by Alexander Roslin in 1765 he had lost a lot of weight. He died soon after.
