They are one of the two largest indigenous groups in #Siberia, the other being the Yakuts. The majority of the #Buryats today live in their titular homeland, the Republic of #Buryatia, a federal subject of Russia which sprawls along the southern coast and partially straddles #LakeBaikal. Smaller groups of Buryats also inhabit northeastern Mongolia and Inner Mongolia, China. Buryats speak the Buryat language, which is one of the Mongolian languages and has its own literary standard in Russia. In Mongolia and China, the authorities consider it a dialect of the Mongolian language. Religion today in the Republic of Buryatia is primarily divided between Buddhism, and Shamanism (Tengrism). The main Buryat tribes traditionally include the Bulagats, Khongodors, Khori-Buryats and Ekhirits. In addition to them, some researchers identify other tribes, which among the Buryats are in turn divided into clans.
