ℍ𝕠𝕨 𝕥𝕠 𝔻𝕖𝕙𝕪𝕕𝕣𝕒𝕥𝕖 𝕐𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕊𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕖𝕣 ♡ When it comes to the soul of our sourdough, it’s always better to have a backup plan! There will be times when life gets in the way and we have to put baking on hold. I have received so many messages from you telling me that you had to rebuild your starter because it had become mouldy from unintentional neglect. Or maybe we wish to preserve our starter and gift it to our family and friends so dehydrating our starter is the best way to do it! ⚠️ sᴛᴇᴘs ᴛᴏ ᴅᴇʜʏᴅʀᴀᴛᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ sᴛᴀʀᴛᴇʀ ғᴏʀ ʟᴏɴɢ-ᴛᴇʀᴍ sᴛᴏʀᴀɢᴇ ➡️ Feed the starter and wait for it to peak ➡️ Spread a very thin layer of starter on a non-stick mat or parchment paper ➡️ If using a dehydrator, set it at 30C for 3-5 hours until the starter is completely dry I’m using the @brodandtaylor Sahara Dehydrator. Or you can air-dry the starter at room temperature ➡️ When the starter is completely dried, break it into pieces ➡️ Optional : Grind the dried starter into a powder for easier storage and reactivation 🙌 I’m too lazy! 😝 ➡️ Store the starter chips or powder in a jar or an airtight ziplock bag and freeze it.
