Amegilla bees: The digger bees with a buzz Amegilla bees are a large genus of bees that are found all over the world, except in the far north. They are known for their burrowing habits, their fast and agile flight, and their ability to buzz-pollinate flowers. Amegilla bees are generally medium-sized to very large bees, with robust bodies and hairy legs. Their tongues and proboscises are long, which allows them to reach deep into flowers to collect nectar and pollen. Amegilla bees are solitary species, meaning that each female bee builds her own nest and cares for her own young. They burrow their nests in the ground, often in dry and arid areas. Some species of Amegilla bees have blue metallic bands on their abdomen, and are known as “blue-banded bees.” These bees are important pollinators. #amegilla #wildbees #solitary #bluebandedbees #australianwildlife #insects #arthropods #nature #natureisbeautiful #naturephotography #planetearth #learnmore #educationalcontent #natureawareness #lovenature #biodiversity
