#HispanicHeritageMonth September 15th was the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, and we would like to honor the rich culture, history, and contributions made by Hispanic and Latino officers of the San Diego Police Department. Meet Community Resource Officer Jessica Thrift from Northern Division. She's a 3rd generation Mexican American who's been with SDPD for five years. Her mother’s side of the family is from Zacatecas, Mexico, and her father’s side is from Durango, Mexico. Officer Thrift is the first person from her family to attend college. She has a Bachelor's & Master's Degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Business Law, all from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Some of Officer Thrift's previous assignments included patrol, Juvenile Services Team, and investigations. Officer Thrift said, "The most rewarding part of being a Community Resource Officer is working closely with juveniles and building a strong relationship between the community and law enforcement.” DID YOU KNOW?: When Officer Thrift was 15, she saved her sister, cat, and dog from a burning building. Also, Officer Thrift was recently recognized and honored by the North San Diego Business Chamber and received the "Our Region's Hero Award."
