First time in Uganda and I got scammed by a tour operator! This tour guide had been following me for over a year and sent many messages asking me when I’d come to Uganda! When I told him the dates I was coming he agreed to provide transportation and excursions at Murchison National Park. Instead of using my advanced payment for mandatory park entrance fees he used half for personal use and other sketch things he was doing during the drive! I guess his plan was to hold me ransom at the park gate and have me pay double to exit the park! Luckily there was a German couple at the hotel leaving the same day and heading the same direction and I desperately asked if I could ride with them out of the park and to Kampala (4-6 hour drive). They were so nice and by the grace of God quickly offered to help! This was top 5 one of the scariest situations I’ve been in! On the drive back with the German couple they said someone had stolen $200+ from their rooms! And let me tell you accommodations here are expensive! This was a terrible start to my time here in Uganda but I made it out safely and trying to not dwell on the past! Travel is not peaches and rainbows and this was a reminder that just because someone has a business and well known in tourism doesn’t mean they are a legitimate!
