🇨🇿 Prague: Fact vs. Fiction 🇨🇿 Living in Prague, I constantly hear travelers repeating common misconceptions about the city. Here are some things that are actually FALSE: 🍺 “The beer is cheaper than water!” False. They passed laws a long time ago that made it illegal for beer to be the cheaper than the cheapest water. 🌍 “I’m so glad to be in Eastern Europe!” Yikes — saying this way will NOT get you a good reaction from a Czech. The Czech Republic is part of Central Europe, along with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Western Balkans. 🤑 “Prague is so cheap!” Not really anymore. It WAS cheap in the early 2000s, but Prague has become more sophisticated and expensive in the past 20 years. (Though my friends from London and Copenhagen think it’s sooooo cheap because they’re used to sky-high prices!) 💰 “I’m in Europe, I don’t have to tip.” Here we do tip. Like many European countries, in the Czech Republic we tip 10%, or round up if it’s a small purchase. Tell them how much you want them to run your card for before they scan it. 💶 “Ready to go, I brought my euros!” You can save them for Germany, because we use the Czech crown here! Calculating prices is a pain in the butt (it’s about 22 to 1 US dollar), but hey, it’s our thing.
