The vast majority. 😅 The Palermo Stone, a black basalt artifact believed to have originally stood in Heliopolis, is currently housed in the Museum of Palermo, with smaller fragments located in museums in Cairo and London. This fragment is considered the earliest Egyptian royal inscription, preserving the earliest royal annals. It contains royal names from the Early Dynasty to the Fifth Dynasty and highlights key events of each year. Additionally, it offers valuable insights into the Old Kingdom, including historical circumstances, the nature of reigns, and some royal ritual activities. These details provide significant knowledge about the deeds of Old Kingdom rulers. One notable event documented is the biennial “Following of Horus” royal tour along the Nile, which recorded Egypt’s economic prosperity and collected taxes. This wealth was measured in terms of herds of livestock, arable fields, resources in precious metals, and the human population. Records of the annual Nile inundation height were used to determine taxes on arable fields, assess the likelihood of meeting taxation goals, and address any shortfalls. #History #AncientEgypt #Egypt #Archaeology #Ägypten #Egitto #مصر
