RIOT FEST @riot_fest in Chicago was inspiring on so many levels. Got to see three of my favorite bands @bronxovision @dresdendolls @thecure back to back to back!!! Had a blast rocking out with some new/old friends from Vegas @subculture_vulture @kevinstwyn @tinabgosh @drewmarvick @jeffmaker Highlights included: * The Bronx putting on one of the wildest shows I’ve seen them play yet. A woman in a wheelchair in the circle pit later crowdsurfed and became my new hero. Got up to crowdsurf myself during their set, the surfing conditions and swell of the crowd was perfect, everyone there supported each other and picked each other up. * The Dresden Dolls playing their first massive festival show in over a decade and absolutely DESTROYING announcing their return emphatically! @amandapalmer @brianviglione are dear friends and are both virtuosic beasts on the piano and drums. Glad they both got to meet Robert Smith and open for The Cure given how much they’ve been influenced by them. Funny enough it was Amanda who turned me onto the Cure when we were teenagers and it opened a whole new realm of musical possibilities for me. It was perfect watching The Dresden Dolls at sunset leading into The Cure as twilight washed over the Chicago skyline. * Pretty sure our Vegas Squad of Rioteers made the only human pyramid of the festival thanks to the chief shenanigans officer @subculture_vulture * The night prior to the festival I had a ticket to go see The Second City improv-sketch comedy show (It’s my first time ever in Chicago! I have to do EVERYTHING!) but couldn’t catch an Uber across town due to Mexican Independence Day festivities surrounding the hotel so wound up crashing a wedding party for two lovely African-American lesbians in the hotel I was staying. Checking that off my Bingo scorecard.
