The first 3 days of your breastfeeding journey are so important for getting off to a great start! 🤱This post has some continued themes: 💧 Feed on demand - let your baby determine when they're hungry, not the clock. Aim for 8-12 feeds per day MINIMUM. 💧 Skin-to-skin - maximize bonding time by keeping baby close. This regulates: temp, breathing, heart rate, blood pressure and organizes their feeding reflexes. Aim for not just the “golden hour” but 16-17+ hours of skin to skin on day 1! Of course pee, eat and rest but do your best 😉 💧 Check for proper latch - a deep latch ensures baby gets milk efficiently. Don't ignore nipple pain! If it is day 3 and you are in pain and only pumping it’s time to schedule a post hospital IBCLC visit! 💧 Alternate breasts & Hand express- switch sides per feed so both breasts get stimulation. This is the equivalent to offering dinner and dessert. Then using hand expression to pack up any leftovers!😉 💧 Avoid bottles/pacifiers - allow your baby time to perfect their latch and your supply to stabilize. It’s not that you cannot use bottles or pacifiers it just helps to establish one thing at a time when possible. I'm here to support your breastfeeding journey!
