We got a message from one of our friends of HSH, Emily @embut11 concerning someone she had befriended who called a spot under a tree on one of the sidewalks downtown home. He needed help. Say hello to our new friend Tony and his faithful companion and best friend, Monkey. When I went to meet Tony, his "home" consisted of a thin blanket. Nothing else. He had 2 t-shirts, one pair of shorts & little else. Someone had taken his shoes while he was sleeping & he had to buy a pair from another homeless person and they were 2 sizes too big. He was being bullied, taken advantage of, and ridiculed. He was losing hope fast. He was not in a good place. But today all that changed. I went to see our new friend, got to meet Emily as an added blessing (she had brought Tony lunch), and take him to his new "home". I also had new shoes that would fit, several new shirts, jeans, shorts, long and short-sleeved t-shirts, a lightweight jacket, socks, personal hygiene, heavy-duty backpack, an insulated lunchbox, food, water, tent, sleeping bag, and tarps. And I am happy to share that he is somewhere safe and will be getting a good night's sleep for the first time in a long time. As we begin the search for a permanent solution.
