Vincent’s chalk drawings. ✏️ Vincent wrote about his own work to his friend Anthon van Rappard: ‘I was struck by how beautiful its colour was, its blackness.’ (1883) The scene you see here is actually staged. Vincent saw soup being distributed at the public soup kitchen in The Hague and made sketches on the spot. Later he produced this drawing, slightly modifying the scene, and using models in his studio. The woman on the right can be identified as Sien – a former prostitute with whom Vincent lived for a while. She posed for him quite often, as did her daughter, here wearing the white bonnet. The baby on the left is probably her other child. #vangogh #drawing #chalk #art #inspiration
