This week Facebook reminded me it’s been 8 years since we started our first renovation. Three house moves. Three kids. Two houses finished. One half way there. What has worked for us? We’re lucky that my husband works shifts so we tag team parent during the week leaving me time for DIY and weekends free for family time. I work from home so juggle work and diy during nap times and evenings. However, in the last year we’ve finally got all three in school/preschool so there has been more work and less of the naptime diys. Whenever we go away (nowhere fancy mind you because renovations are 💸) we will coordinate the more disruptive work to be done at the house. We prioritise their rooms and despite cutting costs elsewhere, we will pay decorators to paint their rooms so the turnaround is as quick as possible. Everywhere else we will do ourselves. We don’t stop the ‘unfinished’ nature of our home stop us from hosting friends and family, having play dates, and enjoying the space. The kids don’t care.
