#flashbackfriday Released on September 22, 1998, today marks the 25th anniversary of “Rasassination”, the second studio album from West Coast rapper Ras Kass (@ras_kass) 🔫 Released on Priority Records, “Rasassination” was the follow-up to the 1996 debut “Soul On Ice”. Emerging from the Los Angeles underground with a complex lyrical approach, Ras Kass was dubbed by The Source magazine as “the West Coast’s answer to Nas”. Addressing a range of topics on his classic debut “Soul On Ice”, Ras Kass returned in 1998 with his more commercial-friendly sophomore album “Rasassination”. Led by the single ‘Ghetto Fabulous’, “Rasassination” debuted at number 63 on the Billboard 200. Production on the album was handled by Stu-B-Doo, Klev, Twelve, Easy Mo Bee (@easymobee), Big Jaz (@itsjazo), Toxic (@producertoxic), and Flip (@dbaflip). Guest features include Dr. Dre (@drdre), Mack 10 (@westsidemack10), RZA (@rza), Kurupt (@official_kurupt), and Xzibit (@xzibit), among others 🔫 Following the release of “Rasassination”, Priority Records merged with Capitol Records, with the latter taking control of Ras’s contract. Nearing completion of his highly anticipated third studio project titled “Van Gogh”, the record became heavily bootlegged. With the record subsequently shelved, Ras Kass went back to work, retitling his next project “Goldyn Chyld”.
