SILICATE CERAMIC HF ETCHING - WHAT HAPPENS to the surface? HF acid removes the glassy matrix between the crystals! Therefore: Different crystalline content means different etching concentration/times: more crystals means less glass, which in turn means lower concentration and etching time. Btw, these are rather suggestions than absolute musts and I see them as guidelines/minimums. Little longer or slightly different concentration won’t hurt. Bond strength to acid etched silica-based ceramics is so high that they typically fracture cohesively within the ceramic. ⚠️ Always follow manufacturers instructions for both the ceramic and the acid!!!!
