The first 10 years are definitely critical and even more so the first 5 (95% of brain development happens before five years of age). And there is so much research to substantiate that both* a healthy mother and father relationship is important to a child’s development. . But let’s be clear; children can turn out just fine with just a mother or just a father too (or surrogate mother/ father). So many children have amazing role models that aren’t biological parents — step-parents, grandparents, foster parents, coaches, aunts and uncles, teachers… the list goes on and on .
