When my daughter moves to another continent it will be she who boards the plane, but I too will find a new country. Her paint brushes in my window sill will stay dry, the hum of her voice will fade, the waiting up until she is home, the late night swims, the sharing of clothes. It will all end. And she is my child yes, but she is also my friend. It wasn’t until my therapist pointed it out—you’re grieving your friend moving she said. And it dawned on me then, she was right. It all feels not unlike transition in birth. I am stretching. Opening. I’ve been grasping at the edge, then surrendering into it. Might fuck around and hire a doula to get me through. 🥲✨🤍 #mothersanddaughters #mom #griefwork #bonvoyage #veryproudmom
