Another hellbender - not sorry about it though. I really wanted to observe some hellbender behavior and this trip really delivered. One of the behaviors I'd hoped to see was a hellbender feeding on some sort of prey and although I did see one make a move at a passing sculpin I didn't actually see one eating except this one individual who was scavenging an unidentifiable dead fish. These fish remains had been around one of the sites we snorkeled for a while, clearly in a fairly advanced state of decay they'd become fuzzy with mold. On one of the visits to the site I found this hellbender wedged deep among some rocks tearing at the remains. Seemed like quite a struggle to tear off any chunks, hellbenders are better adapted to engulfing food whole rather than ripping it apart. After getting a few bits and pieces off the bender seemed to give up.
