Writing this for the mom who may be in my shoes right now going through the thick of it. When Calum was younger and I was still getting my footing and figuring out who you parent solo, I struggled A LOT. I felt like a failure & so guilty that keeping up the home, laundry, cooking, clean up, bath time, work, etc. took up so much time that there was barely any time for 1:1 play without interruptions or being riddled with anxiety thinking about everything I needed to be doing in that moment. All of the things you need to do to take care of your home & child don’t go away, and there’s only so much time in the day. So start including them in the chores, make it fun, and excited for both of you instead of a rushed, stressful thing. While doing this, your teaching your son that there is no girl jobs or boy jobs & that men HELP women. My neighbor said to me one day “men do the tough jobs but men also help women with theirs” That stuck with me and that’s what I want my son to grow up learning…that women are not here just to serve men, but that men and women coexist for a reason and it’s a man’s job to step in and help when possible.
