27 years ago today! The year is 96' and the fantastic Hip Hop collective @theroots has launched their third studio album "Illadelph Halflife"! Difficult to pick a favorite in the catalog because they are so insanely consistent, but this one is definitely up there fighting for that title. Roots is my go to if I want a record that hits no matter what mood I'm in. At the moment of writing I'm enjoying this project and don't feel like I want to skip a single track. They have a presence and energy in what they do that makes me want to just explore it all. The instrumentals that have been picked here are rock solid and the same goes for the rap. The guests who get time with the mic is doing the job right too! The exciting lineup with @diceraw , Bahamadia , @raphael_saadiq , @thedangelo and @qtiptheabstract lives up to expectations and helps create a classic that does not hide in this eventful year for the genre. Illadelph is actually the album that introduced me to The Roots and heavyweight @blackthought . I hope to finish their entire catalog on wax one day, this one stands tall.
