WORLD GORILLA DAY: Joshi travelled from Howletts to Congo in spring of 2021, once he arrived in Congo he spent 30 days in quarantine, and was then carefully introduced to the two young male orphans, Loukelela (7) and Bomassa (5), who had been rescued (as wild orphans) in late 2016 and early 2018. Introductions went smoothly and movement to the 35 acre naturalistic island took place. Joshi has settled well into island life and maintained superb body condition for the last 2 years. His nutritional transition has progressed well throughout this time, with him taking tips from observing the wild orphans on what foliage to consume and where to find it, our team have introduced aframomum to Joshi’s diet, which is a wild genus of the ginger family found in abundance throughout the reserve all year round and is beneficial to good heart health, rich in nutrients and the staple diet of wild gorillas.
