Never let anyone make you feel bad about aborting or calling a dive. 🙆🏽♀️ Recently, I came across a post where a diver asked if she’s an a$$hole for canceling a dive due to personal reasons. She’s a new diver and was made to feel bad for making that call and was now doubting herself. I was shocked that she was made to feel this when safety should always be our top priority whether it’s ours or the people we are diving with. So this is a post to assure you that yes canceling or aborting a dive is totally acceptable and you shouldn’t feel guity or bad for doing it👌🏽 Whether it’s before a dive, at the start of the dive, half way through. It doesn’t matter. If you need to call it, call it. 🤷🏽♀️ Here are some of the reasons why divers abort or cancel the dive. ✔️Equipment is not working properly or malfunctioning ✔️Not feeling well physically, emotionally, and mentally ✔️Terrible weather and environmental conditions ✔️Buddy problems or uncomfortable diving with the people you are with ✔️Dive plan or dive site doesn’t feel right for you ✔️Emergency situations 👏🏽 Always trust your gut feeling. Don’t let your FOMO overtake you. 😅 Unfortunately, there may be times when someone questions or criticizes your decision to cancel a dive. Here’s how to handle such situations: ✔️ Politely explain your reasons for canceling. ✔️ Emphasize that safety was a concern and it’s better to err on the side of caution than to risk accidents. ✔️ Don’t hesitate to talk to your dive leader or instructor for guidance and support. ✔️ Be kind to yourself and genuinely believe that you made the right choice. ✔️ Find new buddies if they still react poorly to your situation. 📌 Remember, canceling or aborting a dive is not a sign of weakness but a testament to your commitment to safe diving practices. Your life and the lives of your fellow divers depend on it. Have you ever canceled a dive? Why was the reason and how did your buddies react? 💕Share this post to promote a culture of safety in scuba diving. 💕 . . . #divesafe #learnscuba #scubadiving #scubadive #padidivers #diversalertnetwork #diveassurepartner
