I never knew what true home cooking was or how anyone could be homesick for it until I got to eat my Omma's food for the first time. Since then, I crave her food every day and crave to eat alongside her even more. Listening to the sounds of her preparing our food in the kitchen early in the morning while she mutters to herself is music to my ears. To me, her kitchen is a well-timed orchestra with each sound captivating my ears before sight and smell follows soon after. The knives crunching through fresh veggies while the blade cracks onto the wooden cutting board; the sizzles and pops from the crispy white edges of eggs on a piping hot, well oiled pan; the sound of Omma's rice cooker singing us its song of readiness; the slow, rolling bubbles from her pot of miyeokguk and kimchi jjigae... Everything combined, along with Omma's voice, becomes a symphony more beautiful than any composer could ever write. Being in Korea has also made me realize I longed for something more than the sounds created in the kitchen. I longed for playing music as well. So one of the first things I did when I got to Korea (besides stuff myself with Omma's home cooking) was buy a guitar. I will leave it here so I will always have something to play alongside the songs coming from Omma's kitchen. Waking up and playing my guitar on her roof and then on her couch while she cooks has become my favorite way to start the day. I am so happy to be back home in Korea. Tonight and tomorrow are the last two nights at Tiny Chef before we close until 10/16 for a well-deserved break. Again, my crew and I thank you for all your support!
