Back again and eating my fave white Char Kway Teow ($6 for a small), not from that famous stall with lines sometimes snaking to the main road. Nope. Whilst that is yummy, I much prefer the white version (with no dark sauce) from the adjacent stall — Stall number 20 — because the wok hei just bursts through. There is no sweet dark sauce to mask any funky flavours, or lack of flavour. The white CKT stands on its own. If it’s a weak plate, there is no hiding it. This uncle churns out solid plates consistently, a feat worth lauding. I have some BBQ chicken wings (I think $1.50 each?) and dumplings.
