Pope Francis announced that a consistory for the creation of 21 new cardinals will take place on September 30, 2023, of which three will be pontifically appointed. With them, the Church will have a total of 243 Cardinals: 139 with the right to vote in a future conclave and 104 non-electors. -Msgr. Robert Francis Prevost: born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 14, 1955, Msgr. Prevost held various positions within the Augustinian mission. In 1999, he became the Prior Provincial of the Mother of Good Counsel Province in Chicago and was elected Prior General of the Order in 2007. Currently, he serves as the prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, a position he assumed in 2023. -Msgr. Claudio Gugerotti: born in Verona, Monsignor Gugerotti was ordained a priest in 1982. He joined the Congregation for the Oriental Churches in 1985 and was its Undersecretary in 1997. Appointed archbishop in 2002, he was been Nuncio in the countries of the Eastern Christian tradition. Since 2023 he has been Prefect of the Dicastery for the Oriental Churches. -Msgr. Victor Fernández: this 2023, the Pope appointed the Archbishop of La Plata (Argentina) as the new Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
