“Being gay isn’t enough to claim asylum” says UK home secretary, @suellabraverman. Well I say look at this artwork and say it again. "Paper Dolls Who Loved" addresses the struggles of the LGBTQ+ community in the Middle East, notably in Saudi Arabia. The artwork features paper silhouettes, purposefully crafted to represent, alleged, gay Saudi men who were punished with capital murder for choosing love. All paper silhouettes are from real images taken in Saudi Arabia. The delicate nature of paper dolls nods to the inherent, genuine, and organic love between individuals of the same gender. Contrastingly, the red oil smudges serve as a backdrop, urging all to confront the human cost of intolerance and to unite in support of those advocating for their freedom to openly express love, regardless of sexual orientation. This artwork stands as a rallying cry against the actions of UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman and the Saudi Arabian government, whose responsibility for these tragic events will not be forgotten. "Paper Dolls Who Loved" also serves as a tribute to those who dared to be true to themselves, even in the bleakest of circumstances. Love, respect and allyship always. #Emj #lgbtqpride #suadiarabia #gayrightsarehumanrights #GayRights @feminist @art.feminist @humanrightswatch @stonewalluk
