Doctors are amazing when there’s an emergency or surgery is needed. But what about when that’s not the case? What about the vast majority of cases when birth is just…..a normal bodily function? Do you really need a highly skilled surgeon to support you through that? And to take it a step further, you don’t even *need* a midwife. While most women do better with a midwife attending the actual birth…the skills needed for basic prenatal care can be learned by anyone. You don’t have to be a doctor or midwife to take a pregnancy test. If it’s positive, you’re pregnant. False positives almost never happen. You don’t have to be a doctor or midwife go check your vitals. Get an automatic BP cuff and a pulse oximeter and you can check your blood pressure, pulse, and O2 says any time you want! You can Google “normal vital signs” to make sure yours are good You don’t have to be a doctor or midwife to listen to your baby’s heart. Dopplers are dangerous to baby, but easy to use. That’s an option. A totally safe option is a fetoscope. Just look up “how to use a fetoscope” on YouTube and listen to baby any time you like! Google “normal fetal heart rate” to see whats normal. Same with positioning and growth. Google “how to check fundal height” and you can check baby’s growth any time. You can also learn to identify a baby’s position in books or on YouTube - you just have to feel your belly with your hands and look for baby body parts, it’s not that hard! In fact, while midwives are good at this, doctors don’t even know how because they rely on ultrasound. You can order your own bloodwork online and Google “normal range” of each value. If everything is normal, great!! If not, then you can seek some help. Doing your own prenatal care isn’t for every mom, but it IS a valid option that everyone mom to know she has. And last but not least, you don’t have to be a doctor or midwife to deliver a baby. Only the mother can do that, after all it’s her body! She should get the credit for delivery, whether it’s her hands that catch the baby or a trusted birth attendant. #homebirth #unassistedbirth #naturalbirth #wildpregnancy #pregnant
