Let’s stop complimenting people’s weight!!! Whether it is lighthearted or not, it breaks me that the thought of trading off a full and wonderfully, healthy body for the idea of “skinny” even crosses peoples’ minds. I couldn’t count the number of times people have said this to me!. Not just young girls or friends, but also women I look up to - teachers, family members, nurses. People look at my situation, and despite the crippling amount of pain, the malnutrition, the extensive treatments and endless hospital admission, they instead become infatuated with the idea of “skinny”, and innocently wishes for an illness that has done nothing but tear my world apart. Chronic illness isn’t pretty. It isn’t just “skinny”. It’s painful, it’s lonely, it’s changing your entire lifestyle, it’s having to let go of your goals, it’s hours of effort just to keep your body functioning, it’s begging that your doctors will listen to you and praying that people understand you.
