happy mid autumn festival, 中秋节快乐 from taipei! savory, flaky pork mooncakes (xian rou yue bing 鲜肉月饼) >>> all other mooncakes I SAID IT these are originally from suzhou and were super popular in shanghai where my parents grew up. unfortunately they’re hard to come by in the states, so whenever my parents or i find a place that serves them, we *have* to order them (i trek out to flushing for these whenever i’m in new york). and i love introducing these to my friends who’ve never had them before! i remember the first time my parents got them at a shanghainese restaurant and i was like huh?? how are these mooncakes? since i’d always grown up with the cantonese-style ones they sell in tins around mid-autumn festival. that was when i learned there’s more than one kind of mooncake 😅 while i hands-down prefer the savory meat version of these, you can also find them filled with sweet fillings like red bean, mung bean, sesame have you tried these mooncakes? if so, do you prefer these or the canto style ones? #mooncake #midautumnfestival #taipei #suzhou #xianrouyuebing #yuebing #月饼 #tradition
