Biography
In 1971 Robert Kuok opened a hotel on Orchard Road, Singapore. He never set out to build an empire, but in a way, his vision was more ambitious – he wanted to create a place where everyone would feel welcome, no matter where they came from or who they were. His dream was to do something that hadn’t been done before – to marry luxury experience with a welcome that was truly heartfelt. He called it Shangri-La. For 50 years, we’ve pioneered heartfelt hospitality in Asia and beyond. Still, the accomplishment we’re most proud of is not the stunning locations and experiences, it’s something much more valuable - it's the memorable moments of joy we create for our guests.
